Founded during the pandemic by Sara, a former chef who lost her sense of smell to Covid-19, the business is now run by Esther Ardagh-Ptolomey, former CEO of the smell loss charity AbScent.

Together, Sara’s lived experience and Esther’s professional expertise have shaped Scent Recover into a trusted source of smell loss recovery and smell training products used by people around the world.

Sara’s legacy

When Sara experienced smell loss, it changed everything. As a chef who also lived with profound hearing loss, scent had been central to her work and her connection with the world. Through smell training, she discovered a proven way to begin recovering — and it transformed her life.

Inspired by her progress, she created Scent Recover to make smell training simple and accessible for anyone facing anosmia or parosmia. Her story remains at the heart of our mission today: that recovery is possible, and that support and information should be easy to find.

Esther’s leadership

Now led by Esther, Scent Recover continues to build on that foundation. Drawing on her years leading the smell loss charity AbScent, Esther brings knowledge of smell disorders, research, and patient support. Her focus is on creating beautifully simple, effective smell training kits and clear, evidence-based information to help people feel confident about their recovery.

Esther also has a personal interest in the links between smell and cognitive health, inspired by her family’s experience of dementia and Alzheimer’s. With emerging research showing how scent can support memory and wellbeing, she’s developing new products that bring those benefits to a wider audience.
