Smell Loss & Quality of Life – New Online Course with CKOS
For many people, smell loss is more than just an inconvenience. It can impact emotions, social connections, and even how the brain functions. That’s why our good friend and collaborator Chrissi Kelly at CKOS is running a special online course this October to explore how changes to smell affect quality of life – and what you can do to support your recovery.
Date: Saturday 11 October
Time: 7–9pm (UK time)
Format: Online course
Instructor: Chrissi Kelly (founder of CKOS)
Why this course matters
When smell disappears or changes, many people describe it as devastating. It’s not just about missing out on food flavours or favourite perfumes – research shows smell loss can lead to depression, difficulty enjoying life, and changes in the brain itself.
This two-hour session will explore:
- Why losing smell feels so overwhelming – and why it isn’t something you can just “snap out of.”
- The challenges of explaining it to others, especially when family and friends struggle to understand.
- How the brain responds to smell loss, including what we know from research about changes to the olfactory bulb and brain activity.
- Potential treatments and coping strategies that are emerging.
A hands-on, supportive workshop
This isn’t just a lecture. The course includes:
- Interactive exercises and worksheets to help you reflect on your own experience.
- A short break to recharge.
- An optional sharing session, where you can connect with others who truly understand.
Chrissi brings years of experience supporting people with smell disorders and will guide you through both the science and the emotional impact in a compassionate, practical way.
